The town is young and first obtained status as a town in 1986, but of course the settlement is much older. Here, life is lived as it was years ago. The dog sled is still winter's most important means of transportation. You get close to the Greenlandic hunting culture and discover a special authenticity. There is no hotel - only private accommodation and a single internet cafe.

The great importance of fishing and hunting continues to characterize the townscape. Come inside and discover how life is lived in a small town with just 600 inhabitants, but look carefully. Drying racks for fish and meat, stretched seal skins, nets, buoys and kayaks stand amongst dogs and sleds. Maybe you will be invited to 'kaffemik'. Food and meals are still a central part of Greenland's special hospitality.

Fishing and sealing have a real presence in the townscape of Greenland's youngest town, founded in 1986. Drying racks for fish and meat, seal skins, yarn, buoys and kayaks are in use every single day. This could be the place where you'll eat the popular snack 'ammassat', a small herring-like fish or perhaps dried reindeer meat or whale skin with blubber. Alternatively, the café Qulleq Sanaluttarfik is a meeting place for lovers of good, Greenlandic food.

The raven is perhaps the bird you will see most frequently out of the 50 different species in Greenland, while the majestic sea eagle is a rarer sight.

Watch for seals and whales, especially the graceful humpback whales that are very common during the summer. The coast and countryside's often dramatic encounter with the sea, the mountains, cliffs and fjords are also an amazing sight to behold. Disko Line's passenger ship runs the local route between towns in Disko Bay.
