Episode 5 - Village Culture in Itilleq
Destination Arctic Circle in Greenland is Rough. Real. Remote, and this is the fourth clip in a series of films about an epic adventure in the region in August 2012. This is life in a small village just north of the Arctic Circle.
Villages are peppered across Greenland’s vast coastline, and they are often remote and difficult to get to. Out here seal hunting is an ancient, integral and sustainable part of everyday life, and the culture in the Greenlandic villages is different from the big towns.
The sense of community is everywhere, and life is a delicate balance of ancient traditions and modern technologies with strange contradictions at play - like Itilleq where many houses have internet connections but no running water.

Arctic Circle Race 2013
The Arctic Circle Race 2013 starts on April 5 and skiers from more than 15 different countries are getting ready and finishing their preparations for the event right now.
They call it the world's toughest ski race for a reason, simply because it's a mix of long distance cross-country skiing, endurance sports, backcountry winter camping, fierce competition, and a fight against the weather, the terrain, and everything else mother nature can throw at you over the course of three days and 160 kilometers.
This year a record breaking 175 skiers will compete in the race that begins and ends in Sisimiut, Greenland's second largest town, and while the mountains are as wild as always out there we expect to see very challenging snow conditions throughout the race due to an unusually low snow year.
So get ready to follow the race either in town and in the backcountry race camp or online at www.acr.gl where inlace standings and final results are posted along with news stories throughout the event.
Greenland - Rough. Real. Remote.
Destination Arctic Circle in Greenland is Rough. Real. Remote., and in August 2012 three friends, Petr, Arne and Natasha, took an epic adventure trip through the region.
They biked the ice cap, fly fished in rivers full of arctic char, stayed in a small village, learnt about street life in the city, kayaked the long fjords, and even ate seal. Greenland will give your adventurous, traveling spirit a home.
