In the same way as her brother Inuk Silis Høegh, the artist Bolatta Silis-Høegh (1981-) has many talents. She writes books, creates set designs and visual arts.
Silis-Høegh is new to the art scene but is nonetheless very productive. Her work has a lightness to it that is rarely seen, for example in the piece "Haveforeningen Sisimiut 2068." In this creation Silis-Høegh is able to raise subjects such as the crises with the climate and global warming in a manner that is both precise and humorous.
The allotment society Sisimiut is a wild jungle of palm trees, coconuts and butterflies. Here the remains of Greenland's close past are located: a scull, a knife traditionally used by women known as an ulo; an anorak with short sleeves is hanging on a clothesline as well as a sealskin bikini. On an old dog sled, of which the dogs have long forgotten, is a copy of Greenland Today that displays an advertisement for the "Summer Olympic Games" which are soon to be conducted in Greenland.
The piece is kept in a positive and light spirit without any sharp criticism and perhaps this is why unhindered thoughts come to us when we are faced with this jungle. With Silis-Høegh's garden we gain an insight into our future for better or for worse. However, this insight is more than just a fleeting vision of the future. It is the compelling problems of a reality we should respond to immediately!
