Maniitsoq is situated on an island, and the area is characterised by a large number of long, deep fjords and a large archipelago. This means plenty of activities on water, but the area is also renowned for skiing. You will also find some of Denmark’s best fishing waters here.

By boat to the glaciers in Evighedsfjorden (the Eternity Fjord)
The Eternity Fjord lies some way from Maniitsoq, but is well worth the journey. The long, meandering fjord is surrounded by some of the highest mountains in West Greenland, which rise almost vertically to a height of 2000 metres (6500 feet). Green valley gorges vie with glaciers that almost seem to tumble out over the mountainsides, and an impressive bird cliff is also passed en route. At certain times of the year, there are also good chances of seeing seals and whales.
Heli-skiing for daredevils
From the middle of March to the beginning of June it is the high season for heli-skiing. Powder snow, burning sun and 900 km2 (350 square miles) of skiing terrain make the area ideal for both skiing and snowboarding. The helicopter takes you up to a new mountaintop each time and waits at the foot of the mountain before flying you up once more. The area around Apussuit is reckoned by experts to be one of the best in the world for summer skiing. For more information contact Maniitsoq Tourist Office.
