The town lies on the edge of Melville Bay, which is teeming with wildlife, and the hunting of sea mammals, birds and fish also characterises life in this little town far to the north. During the summer months you can see the midnight sun and the town’s remote location makes Upernavik a destination for the handful of travellers seeking an absolutely unique experience.

By boat to the glacier
It is just a few hours by boat to one of the large glaciers near Upernavik, and en route you can see some of the world’s largest bird cliffs. How close you can get to the glacier of course depends on the ice situation, but you will get close to the places where the fishermen catch Greenland halibut using long lines – at a depth of 2,000 metres (6,500 feet).
