Good domestic connections
The timetable will be organised such that there are connections to/from domestic flights in Denmark and good onward connections to the three major domestic destinations in Greenland - Nuuk, Sisimiut and Ilulissat - with Air Greenland.
SAS will be flying to Kangerlussuaq with two Airbus 319s, which are the company’s newest aircraft – bought in the late summer of 2006 – with a capacity of 141 passengers. On SAS’ website, www.sas.dk, prices start at DKK 1795.00 for a one-way ticket.
Ice Sheet and musk oxen in Kangerlussuaq
Kangerlussuaq offers some of the best opportunities in Greenland for visiting the Ice Sheet, to which you can drive in specially designed off-road vehicles.
The area is also home to the country’s biggest population of musk oxen – the distinctive animal that can be described as a cross between a sheep and an ox.
The summer is ideal for hiking – both short walks and long hikes where hikers have to stay overnight in tents, e.g. on the popular 180 km (112 mile) route between Kangerlussuaq and Sisimiut.
