SAS has become aware of the increasing tourism to Greenland and has deemed the passenger base to be attractive enough to begin competing with Air Greenland by offering departures from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq during the summer months.
SAS will begin with 2 weekly flights in May (Monday and Friday) and from June to September SAS will increase this to three weekly flights (Monday, Thursday and Friday). In comparison, Air Greenland flies every day of the week in the absolute high season.

Looking forward to partnership
"We are very pleased to be able to offer our customers a route to Greenland once again, and we are also looking forward to working with Air Greenland, who will be flying our customers on to domestic destinations in Greenland. Tourism in Greenland is growing and Scandinavian Airlines Denmark is looking forward to being able to make a contribution to this growth," says managing director for Scandinavian Airlines Denmark, Susanne Larsen in a press release.
The timetable will be scheduled so that there are connections to/from Danish domestic routes and good onward connections to Greenland's three major domestic destinations - Nuuk, Sisimiut and Ilulissat - with Air Greenland.
Competitive SAS prices
SAS' cheapest one-way ticket (flight only) to Greenland (Copenhagen-Kangerlussuaq) with departure on 7 May costs DKK 2,042 if purchased on the SAS website. The cheapest return flight costs DKK 4,065 - again if purchased on the Internet. SAS' prices are thus competitive - and slightly cheaper than Air Greenland's prices when compared on the basis of a flight in May booked via the Internet.
