Nuuk Marathon will be taking place for the 20th time when the starting gun is fired at 10.00 a.m. on Saturday 7 August 2010. Approximately 350 runners are expected to compete, and the number of foreign runners is growing year on year, with elite long-distance runners also competing every year. Last year German women took second and third places in the women’s race.
The route passes the historical buildings in Nuuk’s colonial harbour, out to the suburbs of Nuussuaq and through the open landscape to the new urban district of Qinngorput. The start and finish lines are located at the cultural centre of Katuaq in the centre of Nuuk, and there is plenty of support for all the runners from the many spectators lining the route.
The route has many elevation changes, which makes Nuuk Marathon a greater physical challenge than many other marathons. The Greenlandic athlete Kim Godtfredsen was the winner in 2009 – in a time of 2:33:01. Who can challenge him this year?
