The majority of tourists that visit Greenland head for Ilulissat in Disko Bay, but South Greenland is made up of quite unique landscapes and impressions that await visitors to the region. Greenlandic hunting culture, sheep farming and historical Norse scenery - all in one and the same region. The area boasts the Ice Sheet, icy fells, lush green valleys, yellow floral meadows and wide open skies.
On a Bed & Breakfast holiday you're able to get out and about and experience the multifaceted impressions of South Greenland. During the course of a week you'll stay at two different sheep farms, at the hostel in Igaliku and finally you'll spend a night in South Greenland's largest town, Qaqortoq (Julianehåb). You'll have the chance to both sail and hike from place to place and to get close to the Norse settlers' farms, settlements and churches, which are still visible as ruins in the landscape.
Paradise for anglers
For anglers, South Greenland is a veritable paradise. From the middle of July until the end of September the char swim upstream and there are lots of good places at the edge of the steep-sided fjords at which you can take up the challenge of landing a fish. Remember to look up every now and again, as the area is rich in white-tailed eagles and they make an impressive sight as they glide majestically through the air.
There are direct flights to South Greenland's major airport in Narsarsuaq from both Copenhagen (Air Greenland) and Keflavik (Air Iceland). Tour operator Blue Ice Explorer offers both Bed & Breakfast holidays and angling trips starting from Narsarsuaq.
