Liverpool Land is located in the vicinity of Scorebysund Fjord, which is the most extensive fjord complex in the world. The fjord complex covers an area the size of Denmark and three huge glaciers and countless other smaller glaciers stretch all the way from the Ice Sheet to the fjord.
On the south bank of the fjord enormous snow-covered mountains rising up almost 2,000 metres (6,500 feet) line the Ice Sheet. It is a quite overwhelming feeling to stand almost alone in this spectacular landscape.

Not far from the coast is the town of Ittoqqortoormiit, which has a more stable climate than that of the southern part of the east coast. The dramatic mountains of Liverpool Land lie north of Ittoqqortoormiit and are the destination for a four-day dogsled tour organised by Nanu Travel from East Greenland.
It is an ideal area in which to see musk oxen, mountain hares, arctic foxes and several different species of birds. As the tour is actually more like an expedition, it is entirely up to the experienced guide to decide the content of each day’s programme, his decision being based on the whims of Mother Nature and, not least, the weather. In Greenland everything takes place on nature’s terms, but you are of course always in safe hands when travelling with the sled guides, who are either Greenlandic hunters or whalers or former members of the Sirius patrol under the auspices of the Danish armed forces.
The dogsled tour lasts for a total of four days and offers the traveller a unique insight into Northeast Greenland during the winter months: its people, wildlife and beautiful scenery. Overnight accommodation is in hunters’ huts or in tents on land or sea ice.
