07.05.15 - Climate change attracts American tourists

This autumn the American tour operator Betchart Expeditions will be sending the first group of ‘climate tourists’ to East Greenland on the expedition ship M/S Aleksey Maryshev to study the Warming Island phenomenon, which recently grabbed headlines all over the world.

Warming Island is the name of an island in East Greenland that has become visible after the glacier that previously connected the island to the mainland has melted over a period of just twenty years. The travel agency is now selling a 12-day tour in September from Iceland to Greenland with departures from Minneapolis or New York.

- The island is an irrefutable indicator of the rapid effects of global warming. On this trip you'll be among the first to see this spectacular island on a specially charted route from Iceland to East Greenland, writes Betchart Expeditions in its travel description.

The tour is led by the explorer Dennis Schmitt, who was the person who christened the island when he discovered it in September 2005. For further information, visit: http://www.betchartexpeditions.com
