‘Palerfik' is Greenlandic for "the place where you get sunburnt". It is a unique chance to experience dogsled trips in a genuine Greenlandic manner with up to 100 other dogsled travellers.
From Friday 20 April until Sunday 22 April, when the three-day dogsled trip takes place, there are almost 20 hours of daylight thanks to Ilulissat's location at 69.2 ° N - i.e. approx. 300 km north of the Arctic Circle.

Nature at close quarters and social fellowship
According to the association behind this annual event, which this year marks the 10th Arctic Palerfik, the dogsled trip is held in order to promote dogsled driving and the outside world's knowledge of Ilulissat, as well as focusing on looking after the environment and boosting social fellowship.
This mutual relationship between the sled drivers and the travellers is given pride of place during the trip, and a number of events such as the Greenlandic games and competitions for the most attractive lead dog and most attractive bitch are held. Other organised events will include trips to the glacier, fishing from the fjord and grouse hunting.
Arctic Palerfik's general assembly also takes place under open skies at Ilulissat Icefjord's so-called ‘dead glacier' (Kangia). Everyone who takes part in the dogsled trip automatically becomes a member of the association and can thus attend this meeting.
Practical information:
Participation can be organised by Inuit Travel - an Ilulissat-based travel agency. Overnight accommodation is in tents under open skies and the travel agency can also organise attractions and experiences that are tailored to the foreign traveller.
