The ocean – the ultimate course architect
A spectacular and several metre thick ice landscape makes up the setting for the World Ice Golf Championship, which takes place near the town of Uummannaq on a small island in Northern Greenland.

During January and February the climate, the sea and the ice create the natural settings for the year’s 9-hole course. As a result, the appearance of the course changes dramatically from one year to the next.

Ice Golf at Uummannaq

The tournament is held in the most surprising and challenging environment. Glaciers and enormous icebergs surround the course, and as the ice is always moving, the “green” is not cut and trimmed until immediately prior to the start of the event.

Red golf balls
590 km (370 miles) north of the Arctic Circle golfers from all over the world meet in March to compete in this unique tournament which requires both a healthy dose of adventurous spirit and a golf handicap no higher than 18. And it goes without saying that the golf balls are not white, but red.

Open world championship
The World Ice Golf Championship is held over two days and 36 holes. Competitors who arrive a day in advance have the chance to practise on the unique natural course.

Excursions are organised both before and after the tournament in the spectacular surroundings, with dog sledding and ice fishing among the items on the programme for participants.
