Information about sports fishing regulation in Greenland

To visitors planning to fish in Greenland

Non-residents are required to buy personal fishing licences prior to going fishing, which must be carried when fishing in Greenland. A fishing licence gives the owner the right to fish with a fishing rod, jig or similar handheld tool in accordance with rules that apply to sports fishing in Greenland.

Fishing periods vary from area to area, and both national and municipal regulation may apply. Please consult the tourist office/tourist operators that may be in the area you will be visiting - their websites/contact information can be found on this website.

Fishing licences can be bought with three different validation durations, their validation durations and prices are as follows (if you buy your licence from outside Greenland/Denmark an international payment fees of DKR 50,- has to be added):

A: 24 hours, price DKR 75,-
B: One week, price DKR 200,-
C: One month, price DKR 500,-

Fishing licenses can both be bought in Greenland (from any bank) and from your home country (prior to your trip) - view guideline to buy Greenlandic fishing licence here.
