Nuuk

With approximately 15,000 inhabitants the capital of Greenland, Nuuk, is also the country's largest town. You certainly feel this. The centre is distinguished by bustling activity and constant change, and is also the site of Greenland's Government, the University of Greenland, large hotels and many of the town's shops. The town centre is also where you will find the Katuaq Cultural Centre, an internationally renowned architectural treasure. Katuaq is the setting of cultural events and conferences of both national and international character. You will also find many excellent restaurants in the heart of the town, which together with Hotel Hans Egede and Katuaq comprise ideal conference facilities.

Nuuk by Manfred Horender

From Nuuk, it is a very short distance from the city to the wilderness. In glaring contrast to modern urban life, the world's second largest fjord territory is right outside your door. Since the fjord at Nuuk does not freeze over in winter, boat trips are possible all year round, but fantastic experiences are particularly prevalent in summer. A favourite excursion spot is the fishing settlement of Kapisillit, situated in unusually scenic, tranquil surroundings at the head of the fjord.

Nuuk was founded as Godthåb (Good Hope) by Hans Egede in 1728. The quarter around the old colonial harbour is the oldest and most beautiful part of the town. It is also the location of the National Museum and Archives of Greenland, the home and statue of Hans Egede and the Church of Our Saviour from 1849.

You can fly to Nuuk from Copenhagen via Kangerlussuaq. It takes around seven hours in all, depending on the connection at Kangerlussuaq. The flight from Kangerlussuaq to Nuuk takes around 45 minutes. There are 5-6 flights a week between Copenhagen and Nuuk.

With Air Iceland, you can also fly out of Reykjavik to Nuuk four times a week during the months of June - September.

Destination Nuuk
A meeting or a conference in Nuuk only requires contact with a single partner, Destination Nuuk. Destination Nuuk is the name of a collaboration between the Hotel Hans Egede, the cultural and conference centre Katuaq and Nuuk Tourism. Destination Nuuk takes care of all the local co-ordination. In practice this means that all you have to do is to contact the Hotel Hans Egede, and they will deal with everything from offers and planning to staging and billing.
