National Oil Company of Greenland

NUNAOIL A/S is the national Oil Company of Greenland. It was founded in 1985. The government of Greenland and DONG, the national Danish Energy Company jointly owns the Company.

NUNAOIL has a share in all hydrocarbon licenses in Greenland.

The Company aims to generate and encourage new interest in oil and gas exploration in Greenland. NUNAOILs approach is, through comprehensive co-operation with the oil industry present in Greenland and information to the local society, to facilitate the operations of the international oil industry.



The company's activities
During the nineties, NUNAOIL as the only Operator concentrated its activities on acquisition of seismic data. From 1991 to 1995, as Operator for seven international Oil Companies under the KANUMAS prospecting license, NUNAOIL acquired seismic data offshore North East and North West Greenland. The KANUMAS group of companies still holds certain rights in these areas.

From the mid nineties, NUNAOILs activities were concentrated on acquiring seismic data along the Southwest coast of Greenland, in areas with large structures with a potential for hydrocarbon accumulations.

NUNAOIL discontinued its activities as seismic Operator in 2000, where increased interest in Greenland from the seismic industry, made NUNAOIL's activities superfluous.
After 2000 NUNAOIL has continued to invest in the acquisition of new data which can encourage interest in exploration in Greenland. Data are now acquired in co-operation with the seismic industry and consultants.
